Motivation Behind Becoming a Project Manager
As I always say, I'm a people person, and what I mean by that is that I enjoy and I love having meaningful and creative conversations and discussions with people and fostering healthy relationships with them. I started my career as a full-stack web developer, and although I love my job and the work that I accomplished there and as I've come to realize, it was a very necessary and helpful experience for my growth as a technical project manager. However, I knew I can’t do that forever.
Sitting at your desk alone and coding with limited human interaction, like most days, was just not my cup of coffee at all. On the contrary, I get my energy from being around people and working in a team together with them. I guess what I'm trying to say is that being an extrovert who loves problem-solving and participating in group discussions, project management was a natural career choice for me.
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying that someone who's not an extrovert cannot be a project manager. What I'm trying to tell you is what motivated me to become a project manager.
